How to Buy USDT on Binance P2P

USDT is the universal currency of the crypto world. Whether you want to buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other coin on Binance, the first step is almost always buying USDT. And for mainland Chinese users, the most reliable way to get USDT is through Binance's P2P trading.

This article is aimed at complete beginners who've never touched P2P trading. Every single step is broken down in detail.

What Is P2P Trading?

P2P stands for Peer to Peer — direct trading between individuals. In plain terms, you send yuan to a seller via Alipay or WeChat, and the seller transfers USDT to your Binance account.

Binance acts as the "referee": the seller's USDT is temporarily locked on the platform, and it's only released to you after you've paid and the seller confirms receipt. If there's a dispute, Binance customer support will step in to arbitrate. So there's no need to worry about paying and not receiving your crypto.

Before You Start

Before making your first P2P trade, make sure you've completed the following:

  1. Create a Binance account — register through the Binance official site to receive a trading fee discount
  2. Complete identity verification (KYC) — upload your ID and complete facial recognition
  3. Add a payment method — add at least one payment method in P2P settings

If desktop feels cumbersome, download the Binance App and trade on your phone instead. P2P works better on the app.

How to Add a Payment Method

Many people miss this step, but it needs to be done in advance.

In the app: Tap "Assets" in the bottom right → find "P2P" → tap "..." in the top right → select "Payment Methods" → add your Alipay/WeChat/bank card

When adding a payment method, you'll need to enter your real name and account details. Important: the name here must match your identity verification — otherwise, you'll run into problems during trades.

Your First Trade: A Walkthrough

Open the P2P Page

App home screen → tap "Trade" → select "P2P"

Or simply type "P2P" in the search bar on the home screen.

Set Your Filters

At the top of the P2P page:

  • Make sure the "Buy" tab is selected
  • Set the cryptocurrency to "USDT"
  • Keep the fiat currency as "CNY"
  • Choose your payment method (e.g., Alipay)

Browse the Merchant List

The page displays multiple sellers with details including:

Price: For example, "7.28 CNY" means 1 USDT costs 7.28 yuan.

Available quantity: How much USDT the seller has left to sell.

Limits: For example, "¥100 - ¥50,000" means the minimum per trade is 100 yuan and the maximum is 50,000 yuan.

Merchant info: Number of completed trades, completion rate, average release time, etc.

How to Pick a Reliable Merchant

This is the number one concern for newcomers — after all, money is involved. Here are some selection criteria:

Check for verification badges: Sellers with a yellow "V" or "Merchant" badge are Binance-verified merchants. They've posted a security deposit, making the risk of fraud extremely low. For your first trade, stick exclusively to verified merchants.

Look at trade data: Prioritize sellers with 1,000+ completed trades. A completion rate of 95% or higher is the baseline.

Check release time: Some merchants note their "average release time: 3 minutes" — the faster, the better.

Check online status: A green dot next to the merchant's name means they're online. Choose online merchants so they can confirm and release promptly after you pay.

Don't focus only on price: Some sellers with exceptionally low prices may have small limits or slow response times. A balanced evaluation is wiser.

Placing the Order

Once you've chosen a merchant, tap the "Buy" button.

On the next screen, enter the amount you want to spend. For example, if you want to spend 1,000 yuan on USDT:

  • Enter 1000 in the "I want to pay" field
  • The system will automatically calculate how much USDT you'll receive (e.g., approximately 137.36 USDT)

Confirm the details and tap "Buy USDT."

Making Payment

After placing the order, you'll see the trade details page with the seller's payment information. Assuming you selected Alipay:

  1. The page will show the seller's Alipay account and real name
  2. Open the Alipay app on your phone
  3. Transfer the exact amount shown in the order to the seller
  4. Never include words like "USDT," "Bitcoin," "cryptocurrency," or anything crypto-related in the transfer note. Leave it blank for the safest approach
  5. After completing the transfer, return to the Binance app
  6. Tap "Mark as Paid"
  7. A confirmation dialog will appear — confirm once more that you've made the payment

Waiting for Your Crypto

After clicking "Paid," simply wait for the seller to confirm receipt and release the USDT. You can track the real-time status on the order details page.

Sellers typically release within 1–15 minutes. If it's been more than 15 minutes, you can send the seller a message through the chat window on the order page to follow up. If the seller still hasn't released by the deadline, tap "Appeal" to have Binance support handle it.

Confirming Receipt

Once the seller releases, USDT will automatically arrive in your Binance "Funding Account." You can check your balance on the "Assets" page in the app.

If you want to use this USDT for spot trading, you'll need to transfer it from "Funding Account" to "Spot Account" first. Go to: Assets page → Transfer → select from "Funding Account" to "Spot Account" → enter amount → confirm.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Mistake 1: Incorrect payment amount If the order is 1,456.32 yuan, pay exactly 1,456.32 yuan. Don't pay 1,456 or 1,457. If the amount doesn't match, the seller has every right not to release.

Mistake 2: Clicking "Paid" before actually paying The system will flag this as malicious behavior. Doing this repeatedly will get your P2P trading privileges restricted.

Mistake 3: Paying from someone else's account If your Binance account is verified under Zhang San's identity, you must pay from Zhang San's Alipay or bank account. Using another person's account will result in the seller refusing to release.

Mistake 4: Missing the deadline Each order has a time limit. If you miss it, the order is automatically cancelled. Frequent cancellations lower your P2P credit score.

About Fees

Binance does not charge any fee for P2P trades. The price you see is the price you pay — no hidden costs. However, different merchants price USDT differently, and that price difference is effectively your "cost." Compare a few merchants and go with the best value.

Your first P2P trade might feel a bit nerve-wracking, but once you've done it once, you'll realize it's actually quite simple. The flow is: choose a merchant → place order → pay → wait for crypto. The whole experience is similar to buying something on a marketplace app.
