Do I need to enable unknown sources for Binance App on Android?

First-time Binance App users typically share three worries: what is the real official URL, Android or iOS, and what to do right after install. Bottom line up front: register an account at binance.com first → download the App from the official site or Google Play → install it and grant permissions → set up 2FA and a funding password immediately on first login → complete KYC for full access. This article walks through each step in chronological order — do it once and you'll never be flustered again.

Core entries: register at the Binance Official Site. Download the APK via Binance Official App. iOS users can refer to the iOS Install Guide.

Step 1: Confirm the Official URL

Only Trust binance.com

The only official domain of Binance's global site is binance.com — not binance.co, not binance.net, not binance.cn. 11 characters, all lowercase, no hyphens or underscores in the middle.

Safest approach: type binance.com manually into the browser's address bar. Never copy a link someone sent you, and never click search engine ads.

Check HTTPS

Once the page loads, check for a lock icon in the address bar and https:// before the domain. If the browser warns "this connection is not secure," close the tab and start over.

Verification Methods

On your first visit, you can also cross-check: open Binance's official Twitter (@binance) or the developer page of the Binance App on the App Store, and see whether the official URL they post matches the one you opened.

Step 2: Register an Account First or Download the App First

We Recommend Registering on the Web First

Although you can register inside the App, we strongly recommend first-timers register and complete KYC on the web, because:

  • Web forms are larger and mistakes are less likely
  • Copying and pasting emails and codes is easier
  • For KYC document uploads, the web lets you use the computer webcam or scan a QR code from your phone
  • If you hit a registration issue, the web's support window is easier to find

What to Prepare for Registration

  • A frequently-used email (avoid QQ Mail; Gmail or Outlook is most reliable)
  • A phone number that can receive SMS
  • A valid ID (national ID, passport, or driver's license)
  • Your phone's camera (for KYC face recognition)
  • A strong password: at least 12 characters, mixing upper/lower case, numbers, and special characters

Registration Walk-Through

  1. Open binance.com and click "Register" in the top right
  2. Choose to register by email or phone number
  3. Enter your email, set a password, and receive the emailed verification code
  4. Agree to the Terms of Service to finish basic registration
  5. After logging in, go to "Account Security" and immediately enable 2FA (detailed in Step 6)

Don't rush to deposit funds — download the App and complete KYC first.

Step 3: Pick the Right Download Platform

What Kind of Phone Do You Have?

  • Android (Chinese brands, Samsung, Pixel, etc.): choose Android APK or Google Play
  • iPhone: choose App Store (requires an overseas Apple ID)
  • iPad: same process as iPhone
  • HarmonyOS: choose the Android APK (HarmonyOS is APK-compatible)
  • Old feature phones: give up on the App and use the mobile web version

Two Options on Android

Method Suits Notes
Direct APK install from website All Android phones Requires enabling "Unknown sources" permission
Google Play download Phones with Google Services Play doesn't list it in some countries

If your phone has working Google Play, prefer Play (auto-updates); otherwise use the website APK.

The Complication on iPhone

Downloading on iOS is a bit more involved because the China region App Store doesn't carry Binance. You need:

  1. Register or obtain an overseas Apple ID (US, Hong Kong, or Singapore all work)
  2. Sign into that overseas ID on the App Store
  3. Search "Binance" and download

For details, see the step-by-step iOS Install Guide.

Step 4: Download the App

Android APK Download

  1. Open binance.com in the phone's browser
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page or use the top menu to find "Download App"
  3. Tap "Android APK" to start the download
  4. When the download finishes (about 80–130MB), don't rush to open it

What to Do If It's Slow

  • Switch DNS to 1.1.1.1
  • Change Wi-Fi or switch to 4G/5G
  • Try Google Play
  • Download off-peak (early morning)
  • Use a download manager that supports resume

Verify the File Is Complete

After downloading, open your file manager, find the APK, and check whether the file size matches what the website showed. If it's drastically smaller (e.g., only 30MB), the download was interrupted — redownload.

Step 5: Install the App

Android Installation Flow

  1. Tap the APK you just downloaded
  2. The system says "Installing from this source is not allowed" → tap "Settings"
  3. Enable "Allow from this source"
  4. Return to the install screen and tap "Install"
  5. Wait 1–3 minutes (older devices may take longer)
  6. When installation succeeds, tap "Open" to launch the App

After installing, remember to turn off the "Unknown sources" permission to prevent other malicious APKs from piggybacking.

Antivirus False Positives

Chinese-market Android phones often ship with security software, and installing Binance may trigger popups:

  • "Risky application detected"
  • "This app has not been security-verified"
  • "Contains risky behavior"

These are common false positives for crypto apps — choose "Trust" or "Continue installing." Precondition: the APK came from the official site.

iOS Installation

Once logged into the App Store with an overseas Apple ID, search for Binance and tap "Get" to download and install — the process is the same as any normal app. After installation, there's no need to "Trust Developer" (the App Store version is officially reviewed by Apple).

Step 6: First Launch and Account Security Setup

Log in with the email/phone number and password from Step 2. You may need to:

  • Enter the email verification code
  • Slide a puzzle or solve another human check
  • Authorize the device (a first login from a new device requires an additional email verification)

Enable 2FA Immediately

After logging in, the very first thing:

  1. Go to "Profile → Account Security → Two-Factor Authentication"
  2. Choose "Google Authenticator" (do NOT choose SMS)
  3. Download Google Authenticator (or Authy, 1Password) on a different device
  4. Scan the QR code Binance shows with that App
  5. Copy or screenshot the underlying secret string and save it to a secure offline location (you'll need this to recover if your phone is lost)
  6. Enter the 6-digit dynamic code shown in Google Authenticator to complete the binding

Set a Funding Password

Binance has two passwords: a login password and a funding password (additional verification for withdrawals). Set this — and it must differ from the login password.

Bind Email and Phone Number

The email and phone number used at registration are central to the account. In Security Center, verify:

  • Email is verified
  • Phone number is verified
  • Anti-phishing code is set (when Binance sends email, the real email will show your unique anti-phishing code)

Complete KYC

Binance limits withdrawal quotas, futures, and P2P for accounts that haven't completed KYC. Beginner accounts must complete KYC:

  1. Go to "Identity Verification"
  2. Pick your country/region, upload documents (front/back + a hand-held photo)
  3. Complete face recognition (blink, nod)
  4. Wait for review (typically a few minutes to a few hours)

Total Time Estimate

Step Time Taken
Web registration 5–10 minutes
APK download 1–5 minutes (network-dependent)
Install and authorize 2–5 minutes
First login 2–3 minutes
2FA setup 5–10 minutes
KYC submission 5–10 minutes
KYC review wait 5 minutes–24 hours
Total (excluding KYC wait) 25–45 minutes

FAQ

Do I have to register an account before downloading the App?

Not strictly required — you can also register inside the App. But the web registration experience is smoother for beginners: filling forms, copying codes, and handling errors are all easier. With an account already in hand, downloading and signing in to the App is trivial.

Can I use the App without passing KYC?

You can log in and check prices, but features are heavily restricted: you can't withdraw more than 0.06 BTC per day (lowest tier), you can't open futures, you can't use P2P, and you can't join Launchpad. For a beginner, that's essentially unusable — so you must complete KYC.

What if I lose my 2FA secret?

Contact Binance support to recover, but the process is a hassle — typically redoing identity verification, waiting for manual review, and asset freezing for days or even weeks. That's why saving the secret/backup code during registration is crucial — never skip it.

The downloaded APK's icon doesn't match the official site after install

Uninstall immediately! This is a classic sign of an impersonator App. Redownload from binance.com, paying attention to the domain and file size. If you've already entered credentials, go change your password and enable 2FA right away.

Do I really need to go through this entire flow on the first install?

Absolutely. The money in a crypto account is real assets, and once stolen it's very hard to recover. Spending an extra half hour on security setup during onboarding saves endless headaches later. 2FA, funding password, and anti-phishing code are the baseline — skipping them is like leaving the key to the thief.

Downloading the Binance App for the first time looks like a lot of steps, but once you've done it in order, switching devices or upgrading versions later is a 5-minute affair. Get the security foundations right, and you can operate on Binance with peace of mind.
