Will My Binance Data Survive a Phone Switch?

Switched to a new phone and wondering whether your data in the Binance app is still there? There are actually two layers to this question — your assets are definitely safe (they're stored in the cloud), but some local settings may need to be reconfigured. This article covers everything you need to know about switching phones.

If you don't have a Binance account yet, register at the Binance official website. You'll need to reinstall the app on your new phone — Android users can download the Binance App directly.

Data That Won't Be Lost

Rest assured. The following data is stored entirely on Binance's servers and is unaffected by switching phones, computers, or operating systems:

  • Account balance and assets: All your BTC, ETH, USDT, and other tokens remain intact
  • Trade history: All buy/sell records, deposit/withdrawal records are accessible
  • Current positions: Futures positions, stop-loss/take-profit orders are preserved
  • Pending orders: Limit orders and other conditional orders remain active
  • KYC verification status: No need to re-verify your identity
  • VIP level and points: Your trading volume history and VIP status stay the same
  • Earn products: Fixed and flexible savings products are unaffected, and interest continues to accrue
  • Security settings: Two-factor authentication methods, withdrawal whitelists, and other configurations remain in place

None of this data is tied to your phone. As long as you remember your account credentials, you can access everything from any device.

Data That May Be Lost

The following data is stored locally on your phone and will need to be reconfigured after switching:

Google Authenticator Codes

This is the most important one. If you use Google Authenticator for two-factor authentication, its keys are stored locally on the phone by default. If your old phone is lost or wiped, the authenticator is gone.

Here's what to do before switching:

  1. Option A: Export keys. Open Google Authenticator on your old phone > tap the three dots in the upper right > "Transfer accounts" > "Export accounts" > select Binance > generate a QR code > scan it with Google Authenticator on your new phone.

  2. Option B: Use the backup recovery key. If you saved the 16-character key (a string of letters and numbers) when you originally set up Google Authenticator, you can manually enter it in Google Authenticator on your new phone to restore access.

  3. Option C: Use cloud sync. Newer versions of Google Authenticator support cloud sync via your Google account. If you enabled this feature, just sign into the same Google account on your new phone and the codes will sync automatically.

In-App Preferences

The following settings are stored locally and need to be reconfigured:

  • Fingerprint/Face ID login
  • Price alert thresholds
  • Custom indicators and chart layouts
  • App theme (dark/light mode)
  • Language and quote currency preferences
  • Watchlists (stored locally in some versions)

These are minor — a few minutes of setup and you're done.

Login State

You'll need to sign in again on your new phone. Have the following ready:

  • Your registered email or phone number
  • Your login password
  • Your two-factor authentication method (Google Authenticator code, SMS code, or email code)

Complete Phone Switch Checklist

Step 1: Pre-Switch Check (on your old phone)

  1. Make sure you remember your Binance login password
  2. Ensure you have a backup plan for Google Authenticator (export or record the key)
  3. If you use SMS verification, make sure your new phone uses the same number. If you're changing numbers, update your Binance phone binding on your old phone first
  4. Verify that your email can receive messages normally

Step 2: Install Binance on Your New Phone

iPhone users: You'll need a foreign Apple ID to download from the App Store.

Android users: Download the APK from the Binance website.

Step 3: Log In

  1. Open the Binance app
  2. Enter your email/phone number and password
  3. Complete two-factor authentication (Google Authenticator code or SMS code)
  4. You may be asked for an additional security verification (since it's a new device), confirmed via email code

Step 4: Reconfigure Local Preferences

  1. Enable fingerprint/Face ID login
  2. Set up price alerts
  3. Adjust language and theme
  4. Add your frequently watched trading pairs to the watchlist

Step 5: Verify Everything Works

  1. Check that your asset balance is correct
  2. Verify that futures positions and pending orders are normal
  3. Try a small transaction to confirm trading is functional

Handling Special Situations

Old Phone Is Lost or Broken

If your old phone is gone and you don't have a backup of your Google Authenticator:

  1. Go to the Binance login page on your new phone
  2. After entering your credentials, select "Unable to use authenticator" on the verification page
  3. Submit a reset request
  4. Upload your ID documents and complete facial recognition as prompted
  5. Wait for manual review (typically 1–3 business days)
  6. Once approved, the old authenticator binding will be removed
  7. Set up a new authenticator

During the review period, withdrawals from your account may be restricted. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized authenticator resets.

Changed Your Phone Number

If you've changed your phone number and your old number is still linked to Binance:

  1. If you still have your old phone, update the linked number first: Profile > Security > Phone Binding > Change
  2. If your old phone is no longer available, contact Binance support for assistance

Recommendation: Update your Binance phone binding before switching numbers.

Switching Between Android and iPhone (or vice versa)

Switching between operating systems makes no difference for Binance. Your data is in the cloud and has nothing to do with the phone's OS. The only difference is how you install the app.

Security Reminders

Keep these security details in mind during a phone switch:

  1. Sign out of Binance before disposing of your old phone: If you're selling or giving away your old phone, sign out of Binance first, then factory reset the device.

  2. Don't save login info as screenshots: Never store passwords or authenticator keys as screenshots in your photo gallery. Use a password manager (like 1Password or Bitwarden) or write them on paper and store them in a safe place.

  3. Review authorized devices after logging in on a new device: Go to Security settings and check "Device Management" to make sure no unfamiliar devices are logged into your account. If you find any, remove them immediately and change your password.

Summary

Your Binance assets and trade data are completely safe after switching phones, since everything is stored on the server. All you need to do is install the app on your new phone, sign in, and reconfigure your preferences. The single most important thing is to back up your Google Authenticator beforehand — that's the only thing that could lock you out of your own account. Handle that, and the whole switch takes just a few minutes.
